Description

Your parents warned you not to smoke, drink, chew, or go out with girls that do. However, she said nothing about talking about such salacious issues while earning CLE credits! In this four-hour class, you will learn the legal implications connected with sex, drugs and rock-n-roll. We will cover such topics as:

  • Does the First Amendment protect sexual expression as religious expression?
  • How, legally, can you distinguish boys from girls?
  • Can lawyers sext their clients? (Believe it or not, this is a real issue!)
  • Can a lawyer ethically advise a client how to develop a marijuana business?

In addition, you will learn how to be a legal groupie as we introduce to the basics of Rock N Roll Law. In discussing The Top Ten Music Copyright Infringement Cases of All Time, we will cover:

  • The most famous music copyright cases of all time featuring some of the most famous artist in rock history,
  • what a plaintiff must prove to establish copyright infringement,
  • defenses in these cases and
  • the possible damages.

We will conclude by peering into the life of a Rock-n-Roll lawyer and discussing the ethical issues of representing a rock band. This session promises plenty of sex and drugs, so it is Hollywood approved. We will discuss and watch videos on the legal and ethical woes of The Eagles, The Beatles, The Go-Go’s, Oasis, and more. The presenter has first-hand experience in this area as a former General Counsel to a company. Specific emphasis is placed on the KS Supreme Court Rule 226 and MO Rule 4 of Professional Conduct 1.7 (conflict of interest— current client); 1.13 (Organization as a client); 1.14 (Client with Diminished Capacity); and 2.1 (Role as Advocate).
